Jason McCarthy has revealed that ‘there was only going to be one club’ when he was available to leave Millwall on loan this month.

The 24-year-old, who is now in his third spell with Wycombe, re-joined the club hours before the Chairboys’ dramatic 2-1 victory over Rochdale, with the former Southampton man scoring the home side’s equaliser at Adams Park.

His goal was quite fortunate however, as his cross flew over Jay Lynch, much to the delight of the Wycombe faithful.

Speaking after the game, McCarthy said: “I do them in training all the time but I’ll definitely take it!

“It feels so good to be back and it feels like I’ve never left really.

“I’ve got a strong affiliation with the club which is very close to my heart and it was amazing to see the reception I got at the start.

“I’m very excited to be back.”

McCarthy left Wycombe in the summer where he joined Millwall for an undisclosed fee, but he has only played five times for the South London side.

He continued: “I’m an ambitious player.

“I want to do as well as possible and I want to play as much as I can hence the jump [to Millwall] in the summer.

“Millwall is doing really well but I struggled with injuries which I had to overcome but after that, for one reason or another, I wasn’t getting the game time.

“So when it came about that I was available for a loan deal there was only one club even though they were a few takers.

“There is something about this club that keeps me coming back here and I just feel like I’m at my best here under Ainsworth.

“He gets the best out of me and I’d run through a brick wall for him.

“Seeing it from the outside, I could see that there is something special here and I wanted to be part of it.

“So, I’m delighted I’m here and I’m very thankful to board for getting the deal over the line and to the gaffer for the faith he puts into me.”

In the 80 league matches McCarthy has played for Wycombe, he has started every single one of them.
