Gareth Ainsworth has urged the Wycombe Wanderers fans to ‘get behind the team’ as the Chairboys face MK Dons this afternoon.

Wycombe travel to Stadium: MK after their 2-1 victory over Blackpool on Tuesday night, which saw them move up into the automatic promotion places.

And with Wycombe already beating their Buckinghamshire rivals twice this season, Ainsworth hopes he can make it a hat-trick against Russell Martin’s men.

Speaking after their victory against Blackpool on Tuesday, Ainsworth said: “I think we saw MK Dons experiment with different formations at the start of the season.

“They’ve got a different manager now, who is one of my good friends in Russell Martin, and going to MK is always a tasty atmosphere between the two clubs.

“I know many fans will be thinking that they don’t want to go and, ‘they’re franchise this and franchise that’, but I’m saying get behind Wycombe as that’s what we need – we need you up there.

“This is going to be a big game for us.”

Today’s match will be the 11th time that MK Dons and Wycombe will have played each other in all competitions, with Dons winning four of those games, Wycombe being victorious three times and there being three draws.

And despite Wycombe beating MK Dons twice already this season, you have to go back to April 2010 to the last time the Chairboys defeated Donny in their own back yard in the league.

In that match, Kevin Betsy got a 90th minute winner in a 3-2 win.

Ainsworth added: “They’ve got a result during the week (a 2-1 win against Rochdale) and we want to make sure that they don’t make it two out of two on Saturday.

“I think I played the last time we played away at MK Dons where we got a last-minute winner so I’m hoping we can replicate a win of somewhat, but it will be tough.”
