NOMINATIONS for the Berks & Bucks Football Association (FA) Welfare Officer Awards are now open.

There is less than a week to nominate the person at your football club or league who dedicates their time and effort to the crucial role.

The award - #BBFAStars on Twitter – is about recognising the inspirational work of volunteers across the county all year round.

The roles celebrated in #BBFAStars are not always in the spotlight and the initiative is not only about recognising the individuals in them but also focuses on showing the behind-the-scenes side of the sport.

A Welfare Officer is the second category in the #BBFAStars Awards. The role of a Welfare Officer ensures that clubs or leagues operate a safe and child friendly environment as well as promote good practice in line with child protection policy.

To nominate your club or league welfare officer for the award head to @BerksBucksFA on Twitter and reply to the pinned post with your nomination.

It is easy to nominate – simply start your nomination tweet with the following: “I nominate @(name) for the #BBFA Stars Welfare Officer Award because …” and tell the Berks & Bucks FA why they should win.

Nominations must include the hashtag #BBFAStars to be eligible and nominations close at 11.59pm on Monday 10th February.

The winner of the award will have their story featured on the Berks & Bucks FA website and receive a £20 voucher of their choice from a range of popular suppliers such as Amazon, Next and Argos.

The first #BBFA Stars Award was launched at the start of 2020 and was for club or league secretary. The winner, following a public vote on Twitter, was Ricky Simons from Bracknell Town Football Club.

Simons said: “It’s amazing. Secretaries normally just go about their business in the background and don’t do it for the plaudits, but to be nominated and voted for by so many people is great and very much appreciated.”
