Fleetwood boss Joey Barton has heaped praise on Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth following Tuesday night's match.

The 37-year-old, who became the Cod Army’s gaffer in June 2018, was talking after the Lancashire side defeated Wanderers 1-0 at Adams Park on February.

It was only the Chairboys' second league loss at home all season.

Barton said: “I’ve got the utmost respect for Gareth Ainsworth as I think he’s a fantastic manager and he’s got a group of players who never say die.

“They give absolutely give everything for him and at home, they are a very difficult team to beat.

“For us, it’s just another win and I’m disappointed that we didn’t beat them by four or five because that’s how far ahead of them we were.

“But I think Gareth is a first-rate human being and first and foremost – he’s a proper man.

“He’s a good football coach as that’s clear with the job and the success he has achieved at Wycombe.

“It’s remarkable what he’s done and even though we had a couple of things going on the pitch, Gaz and I will always have respect for each.

“He’s staff are world-class and I wish him all the best hopefully, we’ll see them at Wembley in May which will be nice.”

The result means Fleetwood move up into ninth, two points off the play-off places, whilst Wycombe drop down to fourth.
