THE Wycombe Phoenix Athletics Club felt it was ready for just about anything having recently encountered the muddy fields of Parliament Hill.
The Wollaton Park in Nottingham however had a few surprises up its sleeve including some deep and muddy streams plus some knee-deep mud patches which forced many of the competitors to slow to a walking pace.
The Under 17s women did really well despite the tough conditions and placed 10th overall, which is a huge achievement at the Nationals.
The star performer on the day with an awesome run was Kirsten Stilwell, who came home in second place overall, and only 10 seconds behind the winner.
It was the right decision to run at the Welsh National Cross Country for Melanie Wilkins. She continued a winning season with her first national title.

Wilkins has been such a talent and an amazing asset to Wycombe, and to the endurance squad this season.
That is a wrap for the cross country season and there were some fabulous team spirit and impressive individual performances.
The club is looking for a new men’s and ladies’ team captain next season.
