Wycombe Wanderers has confirmed that Sam Grace will be the club’s B Team Head Coach for the 2020/21 season.

Wanderers’ B Team will be overseen by Grace, who previously worked with the club’s youth department under Richard Dobson from 2008 to 2012.

Prior to joining the Chairboys, Grace had been employed by Reading FC as the Under 16 Coach and Youth Development Phase Coach.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “The B Team structure has been a long time in the making, and we are delighted that we are now able to put plans into action by bringing Sam back to the club to oversee this programme.

“He is a very talented coach who will work alongside myself and Dobbo on the recruitment and coaching of players who we hope will eventually break into the first-team and develop successful careers in the game.

“I’m thrilled that together, with the vision and support of Rob Couhig and the board of directors, we can create this lasting legacy of a B Team which enables us to bring in players that may not be ready for the first-team just yet, but that we can nurture and immerse them into the culture of how we do things on and off the pitch.”

Chairman Rob Couhig added: “Sam’s appointment marks the first step towards what we believe will be a first-class B Team operation which will enable the club to develop the careers of many more young players.

“Gareth, Dobbo and his staff have an outstanding track record of success both in terms of the two recent promotions that the team have achieved, but also the expert coaching given to many contracted and loan players who have gone on to enjoy extremely successful careers in the game.

“Wycombe Wanderers are serious about continuing our recent progress; we are not just in the Championship to make up the numbers.

“We plan to improve year on year in every department and I am delighted that the time has come where we are able to invest into the football side of the business by facilitating this new B Team programme.”

A spokesperson from the club then said: “The club have long held ambitions to strengthen its playing squad by operating a development programme, creating pathways into the first-team for young players who join the club, as well as providing opportunities to play in non-competitive fixtures for first-team players who are not selected for matches, or are returning from injury.”

Also joining Sam at the club will be Isaac Leckie, who returns to the medical staff having completed a Masters Degree in rehabilitation in conjunction with the English Institute of Sport, after spending the 2018/19 season at Adams Park.

Speaking about rejoining the club, Grace said: "It's a privilege to be handed this opportunity."

Following his decision to rejoin the club, many fans took to Twitter to share the positive news.
