Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper David Stockdale.

The 34-year-old re-joins the Chairboys for the third time in his career, but for the first-time as a permanent player, as the former Fulham and Brighton shot-stopper has signed a one-year-deal for Gareth Ainsworth’s team, following his release from Birmingham City.

He becomes Wycombe’s seventh signing this summer, following the likes of Uche Ikpeazu, Curtis Anderson, Ryan Tafazolli, Daryl Horgan at Adams Park, with the club also re-signing Jason McCarthy and Giles Phillips from Millwall and QPR respectively.

Following the signing of Stockdale, manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “Stocko is an important addition to the squad and I’m delighted that he’s agreed to join us on a permanent deal.

“He has a huge amount of experience at this level, and he’ll be working hard to recapture that form to provide really strong competition for the number one shirt which currently sits with Rocky (Ryan Allsop), and deservedly so because of how well Ryan performed throughout the whole of last season.

“David is really well suited to us in terms of his character around the place and the hard work ethic he shows in training, which helps to push himself on and also those around him including the two young keepers we have on our books now (Cameron Yates and Curtis Anderson).

“It’s great to have him back with us and we’re really pleased with the work that we’ve been able to do – with huge thanks to Rob and Pete Couhig, and Andrew Howard – in strengthening the squad in a number of positions to get us ready for the challenge of the Championship.”

Stockdale played for Wycombe during the 2018/19 and 2019/20 season, where he played four games during his two loan spells at the club.

He was on the bench when the Chairboys defeated Oxford United in the League One play-off final in July, which secured Wycombe’s promotion to the Championship.
