Gareth Ainsworth has revealed that new signing Uche Ikpeazu could be in the squad for Wycombe’s first away league game of the season at Blackburn.

Speaking after the Chairboys’ narrow 1-0 defeat to Rotherham United, Ainsworth also hopes that Curtis Thompson could be in the 18-man squad on September 19.

He also hopes that at least one or two more players could join the club before the transfer window shuts.

Ainsworth said: “Uche and Curtis should be back with us next week.

“Dominic’s suspension was always going to hurt but I thought Alex Pattison did a fantastic job in that midfield role, and we’ll assess the squad going forward.

“Uche would have been great today [against Rotherham] but I thought Scotty did really well.

“He was frightening in the first-half, causing lots of problems.

"We had a great chance in the first minute, we hit the bar, had one off the line and you know what, I’m proud of that.”

Wycombe’s defeat to Rotherham was settled in the 92nd minute of the match, when centre-back and Millers captain Michael Ihiekwe scored from Joe Mattock’s corner.

It ended Wycombe’s nine-match unbeaten run against the Yorkshire side, which dates back to the 2000/01 season.

Ainsworth continued: “We’ve got squad depth but with the Covid situation, the way we train and the way we are, we’ve picked up a couple of injuries in pre-season.

“But this is Wycombe and we never have a lack of effort.

“I don’t want to know my best 11 – I want to know my best 22/23 and that is coming.

“I wanted to complete the fairy-tale with a win, but we’ll have to wait and see who is going to get that first goal, and when that first win is going to come.

“I’m really proud of them today.”
