Barrow AFC fans will be hoping for a successful season back in the Football League - but if a marble themed prediction race is anything to go by they could be for a second promotion in two seasons.

As pundits are busy analysing last season’s results, summer signings and early form in the opening games of this season, football fan Ben Selfe thinks he’s found a much simpler way to predict how each of the 92 football league teams will fare this season – a good old-fashioned marble race.

Each of the 92 teams are represented by a different marble matching their team’s colours, which competes in one of four different races depending on which league they’re in.

Ben and his three-year-old son began making marble race tracks to keep themselves entertained during lockdown, and have uploaded the videos to YouTube.

The League Two marble race has predicted that David Dunn’s Bluebirds will finish in the lofty position of third, securing back to back promotions.

Mr Selfe said: “Our first attempt at using our marble races to make predictions went horribly wrong. We weren’t even close to being right, so we want to redeem ourselves.

“Our latest track is much more intricate and comprehensive so we’re confident our predictions will be more accurate this time round.”

“It took us a couple of days to make this track and make sure it all worked. We made it out of football memorabilia like my collection of match-day programs, my dad’s childhood Subbuteo collection, and a football themed flower pot.”

In the League Two race, Barrow ran in to trouble early on and their season looked to be over before it had even started. But, after running into a bit of trouble with the referees, they finally got their season going and steadily began to climb up the table.

A fantastic run then saw them propelled up to eighth in the table, before momentum lead to them clinching third place and securing back-to-back promotions.
