It is 14 years ago since one of the biggest names in global sport underlined his status at the time by triumphing in record-breaking fashion as the eyes of the golfing world were focused on Watford for a week.
Tiger Woods arrived at The Grove in late September 2006 as the overwhelming favourite to capture the World Golf Championship American Express Championship, having taken his haul of majors to 12 with victories in both The Open and the PGA Championship earlier in the year.
The world number one had been part of the USA Ryder Cup team thrashed at the K Club the previous week but he was soon to dominate as he won a remarkable sixth consecutive strokeplay event at what remains the only WGC event to have been played in the UK.
Woods fired a blistering eight-under-par opening round of 63, but only led by one shot at the end of 18 holes. However, rounds of 64 and 67 stretched his advantage to six shots by the end of the third round, with Australian Adam Scott his closest rival.
The increasingly inevitable was confirmed on Sunday, October 1 as Woods fired another 67 to finish on 23-under-par and win the $1.3 million first prize and his fifth American Express Championship by an eight-shot margin, with Scott and Ian Poulter finishing in a tie for second on 15-under.
