Wycombe captain Matt Bloomfield revealed that he ‘felt like a little kid’, after scoring the Chairboys’ equaliser against Derby County on Saturday.

The goal means that Bloomfield has now scored in each of his 18 seasons at the club, after signing for Wycombe back in 2003, whilst the result means the Chairboys stay in 22nd position but are now on 10 points for the season.

He said: “I’m really pleased to come on and get a point.

“It has happened in the past where you have been out of the team and nowhere near it, and then you’re required to play your part.

“The three that started on Tuesday against Huddersfield [Curtis Thompson, Dennis  Adeniran and Dominic Gape] picked up injuries [against Derby], which gives others an opportunity but to be honest, I’d rather that didn’t happen - I’d rather all three of them were fit and are rearing to go.

“But injuries happen in football and you get your opportunity.

“I have been working hard in the gym and have been waiting to get my opportunity and it came.”

The game against the Rams was his first since playing in the win against Sheffield Wednesday on October 31.

And with games coming in thick and fast, he hopes he’ll be in contention for the home match against Stoke City on Wednesday night.

On his goal, he said: “It makes me feel like a little kid.

“The odds of me getting a Championship goal over the last five/six seasons when we were in League Two, I would have told you that there would be absolutely no chance of that happening.

“I am so chuffed to have come on and got a goal.

“This is the stuff of dreams.

“Getting Wycombe into the Championship, the goal, and I just want us to keep improving, moving forward, and get the points that we need.”

Bloomfield has played 546 games for Wycombe and has scored 43 goals.
