Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has praised Wycombe Wanderers after his side defeated the Chairboys 4-1 at Adams Park, in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Wycombe took the lead through Fred Onyedinma before Gareth Bale, Harry Winks and Tangay Ndombele (2), sent Wanderers out.

It was 1-1 with four minutes remaining, and to break a resilient Wycombe defence, Mourinho brought on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to settle the tie.

The manager, who has won 25 major honours, said: “I knew that the game was going to be difficult.

“We started to prepare for the game by showing the players what they [Wycombe] did a few years ago at White Hart Lane, with six of their players along with the manager still at the team, so that was a good start.

“And then we prepared for the game knowing that it could be hard and it was.

“It was not easy to handle that style of play because if you don’t score goals, they stay in the game, and it was great that we scored in minute 85 because that gave us the possibility for us not to play extra time.”

If Wanderers had gone through, they would have faced Everton at Goodison Park.
