Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth has shared his thoughts on the Chairboys' thrashing against Brentford.

Wanderers, who were playing the Bees for the third time this season, were smashed 7-2 at the Brentford Community Stadium, despite the score being 2-2 at half-time.

Ethan Pinnock had given the home side the lead on nine minutes before Uche Ikpeazu scored five minutes later.

Brentford went back in front four minutes before half-time through Tariqe Fosu-Henry, before Admiral Muskwe levelled things up again just moments later.

It was his first goal for the club.

However, Wycombe crumbled in the second-half as Fosu-Henry bagged his second, Ivan Toney got a brace and strikes from Sergi Canos and Josh DaSilva, gave Wanderers their joint heaviest defeat of the season.

The last time they were thrashed by five goals was against Blackburn Rovers in September.

Speaking after the game, Gareth Ainsworth said: “We lost our concentration and focus after feeling hard done-by after the decisions for the third and fourth goals.

“We’ve had a long discussion after the game and know what we need to do to put things right.”

“There were positives, but a lot of negatives.

"I don’t accept defeats like that.

"I’ll be working them hard this week, on the training pitch and in the video sessions.”

“This is a great bunch.

“But we’re being tested now more than we’ve ever been tested before.

“We have to believe we can win games and put points on the board.”

The defeat means Wycombe are now 11 points away from safety, but they do have two games in hand on Nottingham Forest, who currently sit in 21st place.

Up next for Wanderers is a home match against Birmingham City on Tuesday night, which kicks-off at 7pm.
