Gareth Ainsworth hopes Daniel Farke ‘gets promoted’ with his Norwich side, after the Canaries defeated Wycombe 2-0 at Adams Park.
Second-half strikes from Teemu Pukki, which was his 18th of the season, and Adam Idah, which was only his second goal of Norwich’s brilliant campaign, have put the Canaries seven points clear of second place Brentford, as promotion to the Premier League seems imminent for the Norfolk side.
And despite Wanderers battling well, the loss was an all too familiar feeling, as Wycombe are now eight points away from safety.
Ainsworth said: “It was a cagey game so for a side that is 24 places higher than us, I thought we played pretty well.
“Again, a little bit of respect from Norwich but Daniel Farke has the utmost respect for us and I hold him in very high regard.
“I hope he gets promoted as I think he is a fantastic guy and he has a good team.
“The first goal that they scored took a deflection off Josh Knight which is unfortunate as that’s all it took to beat David Stockdale.

“The second goal was very disappointing for me, but I don’t want to talk about disappointment, I want to talk about Wycombe Wanderers are playing [a team which is] top of the Championship and really gave them something to think about.
“OK, it was 2-0, but, I am hoping people watch the game and think it wasn’t really a 2-0, it was a lot closer than that.”
When the two sides met back in October, the Canaries snatched all three points away when Mario Vrancic scored an injury-time free-kick to seal the victory for Norwich.
If he hadn’t had scored, Wycombe would have secured their first point as a Championship side.
