Gareth Ainsworth is still the favourite to take over as Preston North End’s manager following the sacking of Alex Neil.
The 47-year-old, who enjoyed two spells at the Deepdale side during his playing days, is leading the way on Bet Victor, with the odds currently being at 6/4.
Two days earlier [Monday, March 22], the odds were at 5/1.

Other names on the Bet Victor list to take over at PNE are former Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes, St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson, Eddie Howe who was previously at Bournemouth, former Sheffield United gaffer Chris Wilder and Neil Lennon, who recently left Celtic to name just a few.
Ainsworth being linked with the job comes after North End parted company with Neil on Sunday, March 21, following a dismal run of form which saw PNE achieve one win in nine league matches.
This poor run also included a defeat against Wanderers on March 13, and following their 1-0 home loss against Luton Town on March 20, the Lancashire side decided to part ways with the former Norwich manager.

It is not the first time that Ainsworth has been linked away from Wanderers since taking over at the club, as in October 2019, rumours circulated that he was due to take over at Sunderland after the Black Cats sacked Jack Ross.

Ainsworth stayed at the club and a few days later, the Chairboys defeated the ex-Premier League giants 1-0 at Adams Park, with Darius Charles scoring the winner.
Wycombe were eventually promoted to the Championship that season.
