Wycombe and Reading's trust teams play in annual match

Both teams wore their club’s respective away kits with Wanderers donning their second strip from the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, whilst the visitors wore a fluorescent orange jersey, from their underwhelming 2017/18 campaign, where they finished 20th in the Championship.

Everyone was in good spirits going into the match at Adams Park, with the contest being the final fixture being played on the old pitch, before it was resurfaced on Tuesday, June 1.

And with both sides fielding players from their trusts, Wycombe also had myself and Matt Joy (who reports for the Slough Observer as well as Reading FC for the Reading Chronicle and the Bucks Free Press), donning the all-yellow kit on Friday night, which saw Reading travel back down to Berkshire with an impressive 7-4 win.

Matt, who is a ‘die-hard Royal’ and got an assist on the night, said: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening which was well organised.

“On the night, there were some who were better than others but I think we all came off the pitch with smiles on our faces as it was an enjoyable evening out.

“It was a good experience to play on a prestigious pitch as Adams Park following a historical campaign.

“It was nice to tread where those players have trod this year.”

“It was strange as my allegiances were confused on the evening but I hope I gave Wycombe a decent shift."

And on his assist, he said: “It was a great run from my teammate and I just did what you do, as I fed the ball through and hoped someone got onto the end of it.

“It was my weaker foot and it was beautifully converted.”

The event takes place annually, but it was cancelled last year due to the ongoing pandemic.
