Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth has insisted that his side must not ‘underestimate’ Morecambe, as the Shrimps arrived at Adams Park on Saturday.

Despite beating the North West side nine times out of the 18 matches they have played each other, Morecambe have been victorious over the Chairboys three times in the last five matches.

In fact, the last two meetings have seen Wanderers ship six goals past their opponents.

But the boss hopes that he’ll be able to break the curse against their ‘bogey team’ on Saturday.

He said: “They are certainly a team that we have struggled against and I am not going to hide from that.

“Our record isn’t great against Morecambe.

“They’ve been a bogey team of ours when Jim Bentley, a good friend of mine, was in charge, and every time we got close to achieving something, Morecambe put a spanner in the works.

“So we need to make sure that we’re on this one as they have turned over some teams this season.

“Please do not underestimate Morecambe.

“Some people might have done that on Wycombe three years ago and we got some great results in League One, and I think they are showing why they got promoted.

“And being a North West team I am very proud of them, but all I want is a Wycombe win on Saturday and I have asked my boys for maximum points over the next four games, if we want to achieve this season.

“And to do a bogey team at home is a big ask and we’ll be working hard to see their strengths and weaknesses.”
