Milton Keynes Dons FC have publicly apologised to Wycombe Wanderers following the inappropriate chanting which was aimed at Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Throughout the contest, in which the away side eventually won 1-0, the popular striker was bombarded with a repetitive and defamatory chant.

It has not been the first time this season the song has been sung towards the Adams Park outfit.

Despite many pleas from manager Gareth Ainsworth, Akinfenwa, MK’s captain Dean Lewington and multiple tannoy announcements, the chant continued although it was drowned out by the boos being delivered from the home supporters.

After the match, both MK manager in Liam Manning and their chairman, Pete Winkleman, apologised to the striker who accepted.

The side from North Buckinghamshire also issued a statement which read: “MK Dons wishes to apologise to Wycombe Wanderers for the offensive chanting which has tarnished our players’ great performance in securing victory away at Adams Park.

“We strongly condemn this behaviour from a minority of our travelling supporters.

“This is not who we are as a Football Club and goes completely against our values and our culture.

“We will work with our supporters to ensure incidents like this are not repeated.

“At the same time, we would like to thank the majority of fans who got behind their team and played their part in a big away win.”

The defeat means Wycombe are now winless in their last four matches against MK, which includes three defeats against them this season.
