Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth has once again thanked the support of the Couhig family as Wanderers continue to push for promotion to the Championship.

The Chairboys recorded their fifth win in seventh matches following a brilliant performance in their 4-1 away victory at Cambridge United, which has lifted them into the League One play-off places.

Prior to this good run of form where they have picked up 17 points from the last 21 available, Wanderers went on a barren spell of no wins from the same amount of games.

During that period, they picked up three points from the same amount.

But with players finding form at the right time, the boss has thanked those in charge of the club for helping bring in the players he believes can help the club achieve Championship football once again.

He said: “I wouldn’t be able to get the players in if it wasn’t for the Couhigs and the backing they have given me.

“I am a big fan of Pep Guardiola because, after a game, he’ll say that his board will give him the best players and that’s why we’re so good sometimes.

“I can’t thank the board enough for backing me and giving me the tools to give them, and the fans, nights like tonight.

"That’s a team effort from top to bottom.

“We’re coming good at a crucial time of the season as we’ve got into sixth so it’s about staying there.

“We have worked hard on what we have needed to do.

“I am not shy in getting the boys in and making sure what they have got to do.

“In a few of those games against Shrewsbury and Lincoln, we battered them.

"Those easily could have been won.

“We deserved our goals tonight (April 5), we’ve got a great squad, great staff, and great fans as they were loud all game.”

The manager is also looking forward to another away trip as Wycombe take on Gillingham this weekend.

The Chairboys lost on their last visit to Kent in 2019, and have only won at Priestfield Stadium twice in 10 Football League attempts.

But with the goals flying in and with Wanderers full of confidence, Ainsworth hopes more points can be added to their tally.

He continued: “We’re in a good place and we’re looking forward to Saturday and I’m a really lucky guy to have the squad that I have got.

“Not that long ago, I did say that if there was a time to drop out of the play-offs, it would have been then.

“The worst time to drop out of the play-offs is on the 46th game.”
