Gareth Ainsworth has shared his views following Wycombe’s 1-1 draw away at AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons took the lead on 22 minutes thanks to a Jack Rudoni header, before Adebayo Akinfenwa came off the bench to score in the final 10 minutes.

Despite not picking up three points against a side that has now not won in 25 consecutive league matches, Wycombe remain in the play-off places with two games of the regular league season remaining.

Those two fixtures are against Sheffield Wednesday on April 23 and Burton Albion away on April 30 respectively.

Speaking after the draw at Plough Lane on Easter Monday, Ainsworth, who played for the Dons in the late 90s to early 00s said: “It was a tough game as Wimbledon are scrapping and are fighting for their lives.

“Even though they had one shot on target but it came from a deflected header so fair play to Jack Rudoni, we had 17 and five on target.

“We need to do a lot better and make them count when they come because teams like Wimbledon are going to scrap and fair play to them.

“They were great with their fight, desire, and physicality.

“Mark [Bowen] has picked a big team against us and it worked for them until at half-time when I needed to have a few words and ring the changes after 10 minutes.

“Bayo came on and made the difference but I thought Sullay and Anthony also playing their part.

“That’s 10 unbeaten and at the Easter weekend, the lads looked tired and I thought we were unrecognizable during a few moments and that’s down to me.

“It’s obviously difficult with Anis, Curtis, and Jack being out with Lewis Wing being suspended.

“Those things have gone against us but if you’re not at your best and you get a point away from home, I think that’s great.”

Since their first meeting as the new Dons in 2008, Wycombe have only beaten AFC Wimbledon twice in 15 matches.
