Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has revealed that his squad is growing in numbers following the return of several key players from injury.

Anis Mehmeti and Jack Young were both seen at the Plymouth Argyle match on Good Friday each wearing a protective boot, whilst Nick Freeman hasn’t played for the club since August.

The centre midfielder picked up an ACL injury in Wanderers’ 1-0 home win over Lincoln City, in what was the fourth league match of the campaign.

However, with two games remaining and with the Chairboys being in a good position for the League One play-off places, he hopes that the returning players can be fit enough to partake in the last two league matches.

The only long-term injury is Curtis Thompson, who hasn't played since the 5-5 draw against Cheltenham Town.

Speaking to the Free Press, he said: “We’ve got squad members returning which is great in the likes of Anis Mehmeti, Jack Young and even Nick Freeman who has been out on the training pitch, so hopefully we will be in a good stead to take and use them.”

The 48-year-old also believes that his squad is more than ‘capable’ of achieving their second promotion in three years.

Wycombe have so far won 21 of their 44 matches in the division, scoring 72 goals and keeping 17 clean sheets.

They are also unbeaten in 10 league matches which is their best run of form for five seasons.

He continued: “The lads are capable and it’s not a fluke and this isn’t a one-off season.

“Since the Couhigs have come in, we’ve added a bit of quality into the squad and over the last three years, we’ve been fantastic.

“Last year, we just missed out on survival and I’m hoping we’re back in the Championship and I can’t thank the Couhigs enough.

“We’ve two big games coming up.

“Burton are dangerous as they defeated Rotherham 2-0 so they turned them over, and of course, we’ve got Sheffield Wednesday and we all know that they are powerful when they go forward.

“They are a huge club and Saturday will be a great occasion.

The match will kick-off at 3pm.
