Reports are suggesting that Wycombe Wanderers are expected to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop on loan for the upcoming season.

The Chairboys currently have just one shot-stopper on their books in Tyla Dickinson, after Adam Przybek joined Walsall and last season’s number one, David Stockdale, moved to Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Bishop, who is 22-years-old, spent the previous campaign on loan at League Two Mansfield Town, where he helped the Stags reach the play-off final which they lost 3-0 against Port Vale.

According to the Manchester Evening News, it was suggested that he was in talks with both the Red Devils and the Nottinghamshire side in having his loan extended for another season.

However, the 13-time Premier League champions would prefer if the goalkeeper from Hillingdon were to continue his development at a club higher in the football pyramid.

It had also been reported that newly-promoted Exeter City were the favourites to sign Bishop, but according to Alex Crook from Talk Sport, Wanderers are leading the race to land his signature.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth also told the club’s website on June 23 that he hopes the club will have a new number one in ‘the next few days.'

Bishop began his career with Southend United and played 39 times for the Essex-based club between 2017 and 2020, with two of those appearances coming against Wanderers.

He was then signed by Man United in January 2020 and has been part of the club’s youth squads, with his current deal expiring in 2023.

He joined Mansfield on loan for the 2021/22 season, where he kept 16 clean sheets in 53 games for Nigel Clough's men.
