Wycombe Wanderers will ‘win and lose as a club’ and not as individuals following their League Cup exit to Bristol City.

Despite a spirited performance that saw many of the inexperienced players shine through, the Championship club proved too strong for the Chairboys who were knocked out in the second round of the competition.

The loss means Wanderers have now been defeated four times in their seven games this season but have won the other three.

Speaking after the match against the Robins, Ainsworth said: “The experience showed in the end as they are a good side, but I was disappointed with the third goal as we gave that to them.

“The second one we could have defended better but we did have some chances.

“It wasn’t anything that we didn’t expect, it wasn’t one-way traffic and there were many sparks in my team and we’re proud of them.

“However, there were a few players with lots of games under their belt that made one or two errors, so I’m not just going to pick on the young boys.

“We win and lose as a club, not as an 11 or an 18.

“We lose as a 34 and we feel it all together.

“That’s how we do it at Wycombe and hopefully later on in the season in the league, the likes of Jack Wakely and Jasper Pattenden and people like that can come through and get their chance, as these games will play a huge role in their development.

“We held our own at times and that was really nice to see.”
