Walsall manager Michael Flynn has said that his side need ‘to be up for the challenge’ as they take on Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup this weekend.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides in the competition with the Midlands team going into the contest unbeaten in their last three.

Wanderers have only lost one of the last six but have had three disappointing results against Cambridge United, Morecambe and Port Vale, where they have picked up two points from nine.

The tie at Adams Park may come as a welcome distraction for both cubs as they sit 12th in their respective leagues.

And Flynn, who has faced Leeds United, Leicester City, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Middlesborough in the world’s oldest cup competition, hopes his team are ‘ready’ on the weekend.

He told the club’s media: “Gareth Ainsworth has done a great job there over the years and is somebody that I have a lot of time for.

“I know they are going to be organised and fit, it’s going to be really tough, and we need to be ready.

“We’ve got to be up for the challenge.”

On the fixture, he concluded: “It’s a free hit.

“We’ve been playing well for a high percentage of the season, and we’re now starting to get the wins and performances together.

“The boys can go there with a real belief. We want to put on a show and hopefully we can get into the next round.”
