Wycombe Wanderers centre back Chris Forino is expected to sign for Queens Park Rangers.

There has been speculation surrounding the defender’s future since the start of the transfer window, but it was suggested at the end of June that ‘there was no validity’ in the links.

However, it seems that QPR, who are managed by former Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth, have upped their interest in the former Colchester United and Brentford academy product.

Forino has been revealed as Rangers' ‘number one transfer target’, and is set to join the former Premier League team for a fee to be around £350,000 plus add-ons.

Another ex-Chairboy that is anticipated to join QPR is Lewis Wing.

The 28-year-old had been offered a new contract by Wycombe at the end of the 2022/23 season, but declined the chance to extend his stay at Adams Park, making him a free agent.

In a recent interview with BBC 3 Counties, Wycombe owner Rob Couhig admitted that he’ll listen to offers ‘that are good for Forino and the club.’

He told the radio station on July 17: “With our development squad, these guys supplement our budget like Anis Mehmeti who bought us in money.

“Some other guys are on the cusp of bringing in money, but we’re bringing in around five, six to seven young guys who can play for us.

When asked about Forino's future, Couhig added: “I don’t know if he’ll go this transfer window.

“We’ve managed to fend off competition for Chris, but he won’t go cheap.

“The good news with Wycombe today is that we don’t need to sell anyone to survive.

“So if someone comes in with an offer that’s good for Chris, it’ll mean he’ll play at a higher level and it’ll be good for us to get our value.

“But both things have to come true and I don’t know what will happen to Chris at this stage.”

Forino joined Wycombe in April 2021 after impressing both Ainsworth and development manager Sam Grace following a short-term trial.

He eventually signed for the club and has since featured in 53 competitive games for Wanderers, scoring five times.

The Saint Lucian's current contract at Wanderers is due to expire in 2024.
