Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield has admitted he is ‘frustrated’ that he has been without several key players throughout pre-season due to injury.

Whilst he did not disclose any specific names, notable absentees from the Chairboys’ 2-1 win over Aldershot Town on July 22 included Sam Vokes, Josh Scowen, Jack Grimmer, Jason McCarthy and David Wheeler.

Despite the large chunk of the squad being missing, the club have signed eight new players this summer and are expected to add several more faces before the end of the transfer window on September 1.

Speaking after the win over the National League side, Bloomfield said: “It’s extremely frustrating to be doing a pre-season with so many people unavailable.

“It’s also frustrating to have nearly four weeks together and not have any work in some of the boys, but we hope they’ll be back sooner rather than later.

“We’re hoping that some could return for Tuesday night against Wealdstone, and maybe a few more for Cardiff, and some will miss the whole of pre-season which is unfortunate.

“But we need to adapt and keep moving forward.

“There has been so much change in such a short space of time with so many players and staff members leaving, with many new faces coming in.

“So much has gone on that I haven’t had the time to really think, but I’m loving the opportunity at the moment.”

On the win against Aldershot which saw several trialists take part with one getting himself on the scoresheet, Bloomfield added: “We’re trying to analyse the boys as much as we can and give them opportunities to impress.

“It was a great finish from the boy who has been with us this week and we’ll have another look at him on Tuesday night at Wealdstone.”
