Wycombe Wanderers progressed into the second round of the League Cup after they defeated their Buckinghamshire rivals Milton Keynes 2-0 at Stadium MK.

Second half goals from Brandon Hanlan and Chris Forino saw the Adams Park side shrug off their county neighbours in what was a tight match in North Bucks.

The Chairboys began the cup tie the better and nearly took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when Dale Taylor’s 20-yard shot flew just wide of Craig MacGillivray.

Matt Bloomfield’s side continued to dominate the opening stages and had a brilliant chance to go ahead through an unlikely source.

After Kian Breckin put through Sam Vokes, the Welshman found Jack Grimmer who made a run into the box, but his effort went wide by a matter of inches.

Wanderers piled on the pressure as Harry Boyes and Taylor had shots from range, but the tide turned midway through the half.

Milton Keynes began to take control as Max Stryjek produced two brilliant saves to deny Warren O’Hora and captain Alex Gilbey.

Mo Eisa then fired before he clipped the bar from range.

Ten minutes later, the MK keeper produced two brilliant stops to deny Taylor and Tjay De Barr, but he was helpless to stop a powerful Forino header in the final 10 minutes.
