Wycombe Wanderers Manager Matt Bloomfield said he wants his side to play with ‘confidence’ and a ‘swagger’ which could be the answer to continue and improve the Chairboys’ goal-scoring run.

Wycombe Wanderers won the game 2 – 0 at Adams Park against ten men Carlisle United with goals from Luke Leahy and Sam Vokes.

A nightmare from Jökull Andresson saw him sent off after Swiping his arm at the ball after a bizarre run of play allowing Wycombes number nine to sneak up on the Icelandic Keeper stealing possession away.

Matt Bloomfield spoke on what he emphasised to his side at halftime: ‘(that) it’s really important to keep the intensity in the play, one of the issues you have playing against ten men is it can become too pedestrian. Playing too much at one pace. We need to make sure we played with a tempo and an intensity in our play.’

Reflecting on whether his side achieved the focus of his half-time team talk: ‘I think we did that intermittently in the second half. If I’m going to be honest, some of the stuff I was really pleased with, but at other times I think we dropped off, but at 1 – 0 up there is always going to be a safety net of being a goal ahead, that was the message at half time and invariably we did that in the second half. ‘

Then on the other side, Wycombe’s attacking outlay reflected the scoreline with 19 shots and 1.92 expected goals. The Chairboys only scored a penalty from Leahy and a vintage goal from Vokes rolling the defender and slotting it home.

But with Buckinghamshire side having an improvement in the attacking play led to praise from the Wycombe boss: ‘we want that individual magic and the boys get the opportunity and I want them to feel the freedom in the top third, to go express themselves.

‘Sometimes that’s combination play round the box and sometimes that’s one vs. one situations. But I want them to feel the confidence I have in them and have that swagger in their play because we’ve got some real players here.’
