Luton Town winger and ex-Wycombe Wanderers fan favourite Fred Onyedinma will not be re-joining the club this January transfer window.

The 27-year-old Nigerian had been on loan at Championship side Rotherham United until the start of this month, when his deal was mutually terminated.

Some Chairboys fans had been hopeful that a potential fourth spell at Adams Park could occur this month following his departure from the Yorkshire-based team, but this will not be the case.

Millers manager Leam Richardson explained to the Rotherham Advertiser: “He’s just been unfortunate with injuries.

“He picked up another injury which will see him out for some weeks.

“After discussions with the player himself - which is the most important thing - and the club, it was decided that it was the best thing all around that we freed that loan space up to hopefully add to the squad where people can help us in the here and now rather than in seven or eight weeks.”

Onyedinma’s injury has been described as ‘significant’.

He played 19 times for the Millers scoring twice, with his last appearance coming at the end of November.

For Luton, he has featured in 52 matches since joining in May 2021.

And for Wycombe, the winger played 114 times in which he scored on 23 occasions.

During his career, he has been part of five play-off campaigns, earning three promotions.

They are as follows:

2014/15 season: Runner up with Wycombe Wanderers (League Two)

2015/16 season: Runner up with Millwall (League One)

2016/17 season: Winner with Millwall (League One)

2019/20 season: Winner with Wycombe Wanderers (League One)

2022/23 season: Winner with Luton Town (Championship)
