There were many positives in Wycombe Wanderers’ 5-2 home victory against Peterborough United, but here are some things you have may missed.

Five-star showing

When you score five goals, you’re more than likely expected to win.

However, the last time Wanderers bagged that many strikes in one game, they incredibly drew.

This was in a 5-5 draw versus Cheltenham Town on February 19, 2022.

The last time Wycombe scored five in a league victory was way back on September 27, 2016, when they defeated Crewe Alexandra 5-1 at Adams Park – 2,692 days ago.

The first defeat for Fergie

Darren Ferguson’s managerial career will be synonyms with Peterborough United as Saturday’s fixture was the 585th time he had taken charge of the Posh in his fourth spell at London Road.

However, it was only the second time his in whole career (including spells at Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers respectively), that he had lost to the Chairboys.

In 11 meetings, he achieved four wins, five draws and two defeats.

His previous loss at the hands of Wycombe was in April 2017, when Wanderers defeated Doncaster 2-1 at Adams Park.

Remembering Adam Ankers

At the start of the week, Wycombe confirmed the loss of 17-year-old supporter and foundation player Adam Ankers.

The news of the teenager’s passing was met with shock and sadness as everyone connected to the club sent their well-wishes to the Ankers family.

And on the 17th minute of the contest, fans in all four corners of Adams Park gave the late fan a standing ovation.

He will be formally remembered at the club’s next home game, which will be against Oxford United on February 17.

At long last for Jack

He’s not known for scoring goals, but right-back Jack Grimmer has now scored two in two games.

His strike on the stroke of half-time made it 2-1 to Wycombe against the Posh on Saturday, just seven days after he netted his first of the season versus Cheltenham Town.

The latter was his first goal in any capacity in two years.

However, his strike on Saturday was his first at Adams Park for Wycombe since joining the club in the summer of 2019.

He had played a total of 86 games before scoring on February 10 versus Peterborough.

Goals, goals and goals

Wycombe have been criticised for not scoring enough goals this season, as the Chairboys had only bagged 32 in the league before this month.

However, they have since scored eight in the last two matches.

Finally, Saturday's result means 38 goals have been scored in the last 10 meetings between Wycombe and Peterborough.
