The Paralympic Flame is set to be ignited by two British athletes in Stoke Mandeville.
Helene Raynsford and Gregor Ewan will ignite the flame at the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement today (August 24).
Ms Raynsford was the first-ever Paralympic champion in Para rowing at the Beijing 2008 Games, while Mr Ewan is a three-time Paralympian in wheelchair curling.
This is the first time since the London 2012 Paralympic Games that the flame has been created at Stoke Mandeville.
From Paris 2024 onwards, the Paralympic Flame will begin its journey to the Games from the village.
This is part of efforts by the IPC, ParalympicsGB, and WheelPower, aiming to increase global awareness of the foundational role Stoke Mandeville and Sir Ludwig Guttmann played in the birth and development of the Paralympic Movement.
Ms Raynsford, also chair of the ParalympicsGB Athlete Commission, said: "Words cannot describe the honour of being chosen to light the Paralympic Flame alongside Ewan at the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement.
"It will be a very special moment ahead of what will be spectacular Paralympic Games."
Mr Ewan, who won bronze at his Paralympic debut in Sochi 2014, said: "Stoke Mandeville is such an integral part of the fabric of the Paralympic Movement, and I am so excited to be chosen for this extremely special occasion."
IPC president Andrew Parsons will be the first torchbearer of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Torch Relay, running a short circuit of the Stoke Mandeville athletics track after the flame is lit.
The 'Forerunners Relay' will begin on Sunday, with the flame passing from the UK to France via the Channel Tunnel.
Twenty-four British torchbearers will symbolically journey through the tunnel and hand over the flame at the halfway point to 24 French Para torchbearers, who will carry the flame into France.
When the flame reaches Calais, it will multiply into 12 separate flames, symbolising the 12-day duration of Paris 2024, France’s first Paralympic Games.
These flames will spread to the outskirts of France, converging in Paris on August 28, where the Paralympic Cauldron will be lit at the Games' opening ceremony.
The route for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Torch Relay was designed with the French Paralympic and Sports Committee, highlighting areas committed to greater inclusion in sport.
It also showcases cities steeped in France's history and heritage.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Torch Relay is organised with the support of its presenting partners, Coca-Cola, Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne.
