Wycombe Wanderers head coach Mike Dodds has revealed there were ‘a few choice words’ at half-time during the club’s 1-1 draw at Peterborough United.

The Chairboys offered little to nothing in the opening 45 minutes and found themselves a goal down thanks to Malik Mothersille’s 15th-minute penalty.

Joe Low carelessly gave the ball away to Abraham Odoh who ran into the box, which led to Josh Scowen committing a foul.

Wanderers looked lacklustre in the first period but greatly improved in the second as Richard Kone had three goals chalked off.

He also hit the post before scoring Wycombe’s equaliser in injury-time.

It was his 20th of the season and his 17th in the league.

This late strike means Wanderers remain in second on 68 points, level with Wrexham who sit in third.

The two sides will meet at Adams Park next weekend.

Dodds said: “It was a tale of two halves as I didn’t like the first-half.

“I didn’t like the performance and I really didn’t like much if I am honest but with that being said, we could have gone in at 1-1.

“Regardless, I wouldn’t have allowed it and half-time, there were some choice words at the break.

“After that, I thought we had a lot of energy and purpose when we rolled our sleeves up where we made it difficult for Peterborough.

“There was only one team in the second-half as we made a few tweaks at the break but they weren’t tactical.

“It was more about the energy and endeavour and we had a right go and had more purpose than them.”

When asked about why Wanderers looked toothless in the opening 45, he added: “First-half, we just had no control and it was really bitty.

“I think they had a lot more energy, endeavour and umph about them in how they started.

“In games, you get momentum swing moments and I just thought we gave the ball away and made poor decisions which allowed the momentum to swing in their favour.

“We just needed to slow the chaos down, so I was disappointed with the opening 45 but as always, I am the captain of the ship so the buck stops with me.

I’m not finger-pointing at the players, as I am finger-pointing at me, in terms of why the first half was slow and laboured but the second half was a lot more like us.

“We penned them in and had several chances to be comfortable.”
