Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed the departure of defender Alex Hartridge.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Chairboys as a free agent from Exeter City, leaves the Adams Park club for League One rivals, Burton Albion.

He joins the Brewers on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

During his only year in South Buckinghamshire, Hartridge played 17 times, 16 of which were starts.

However, he only featured six times in the league and was loaned out back to his former club, Exeter, in January, after falling out of favour.

During his time at Adams Park, he picked up seven yellow cards and two reds – the latter of which came in his final league outing for Wycombe.

This was in a 1-1 home draw against Blackpool in January.

It seemed Hartridge wouldn’t feature again for Wanderers after his dismissal and subsequent loan move back down to the South West, but he played in both of Wycombe’s EFL Cup matches this season (against Leyton Orient and Bromley).

He didn’t put a foot wrong in either fixture and scored a penalty against the latter in a shootout, which the Chairboys won.

Speaking on his arrival, Brewers boss Gary Bowyer said: “Alex is a great signing for us, and we are delighted that we have been able to bring him to the club. A huge thank you to the owners for allowing us to get this deal done.

“He is a strong defender who gives us great options in our backline. We look forward to working with him.”
