Wycombe interim head coach Tom Hounsell praised his side’s attitude and resilience after they secured their first league win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Leyton Orient.
Taking charge for the first time on an interim basis following Michael Duff's departure earlier in the week, goals from Jayden Wareham, Fred Onyedinma and Dan Harvie helped the Chairboys all three points in East London.
For Orient, they got on the scoresheet thanks to a Jack Grimmer own goal and a Jaze Kabia strike.
The victory ended a run of seven games without a win, with the result being Wanderers’ first at Brisbane Road since April 2017.
He said: "It's always difficult to deal with those moments, but the players' ability to come back into the game was a key feature.
"Momentum swung back and forth throughout the match, but I thought particularly the senior lads helped steer us through those periods and navigate our way through them.
"Being able to rely on those players gives the team stability."
Hounsell felt the squad's work on the training ground during a turbulent week was reflected in the performance and result.
"I'm really happy that we got a positive result," he said.
"The togetherness of the group and the work we've done this week was reflected in the result.
“The ability of the players to manage the game was superb.
"We were able to get momentum back in our favour at crucial times. Was it perfect? No, but after only a couple of days' work it probably wasn't going to be."
The interim boss admitted there were nervous moments during the second half as Orient pushed for an equaliser, but credited experienced players for helping Wanderers regain control.
"There was a lot of experience in the team and I think that helped in those moments," he said.
"Their decision-making and professionalism really helped us manage the game and see it out.
"Everyone wants to win badly and sometimes that can affect your decision-making or emotions, but I thought the players were excellent in the final stages and were able to secure the victory."
Despite ending their winless start to the campaign, Hounsell insists the focus must now be on building momentum.
"They're in a good place, but it's important that we don't get ahead of ourselves," he said.
"I've asked them to believe in their quality all week and I think they're doing that.
"Winning is contagious and we need to make sure it becomes a habit. We've got to be relentless and keep that attitude moving forward."
