ORGANISERS of the Wycombe Half Marathon have offered to help raise money for the Free Press trust fund appeal for the children of two women killed in the Wycombe town centre accident two weeks ago.

The trust fund has been set up to benefit the children of Maggie Doel, 48 and Sally Jamieson, 40, who were killed when a lorry crashed into Aitchisons estate agents in Easton Street.

The money will be divided between Maggie's children Gary, 22, Mark 20 and Tim 15 and Sally's children, Benjamin, four, and Joshua, two.

Now organisers of the annual half marathon have offered to help raise funds for the appeal as well.

Alex Johnson, chairman of the race organising committee, said: "We are expecting about 1,200 people to take part in the race, excluding the people sitting on the Rye.

"If people are running for the first time you can guarantee that they are running for a charity and thousands and thousands of pounds are raised through this event every year.

"What we are saying to people is that if they haven't got a cause they want to support yet then why not support this one.

"We already have sponsorship forms available in the pack we give people and they could nominate this as their chosen cause."

He added that the scale of the tragedy had affected many people.

"Most people who I go running with commented on the story and even people I know who aren't in the area commented on it.

"I think it has affected everyone and we thought this would be a great opportunity to raise money.

"The race puts a lot of focus on the whole area and it would be a great cause to support", he said.

If you are running and would like to be sponsored on behalf of the trust, call the Free Press on (01494) 755097 for further details.
