WYCOMBE were involved in the most incidental match of the day on Saturday that included seven goals, three penalties and two sendings off, but they came out with nothing despite a battling performance that surely deserved more.

The Blues finished the match, and infact the first half, with just nine men after a 21 man brawl that somehow, referee Mr Prosser, managed to find only two gulity men. Danny Senda and Jermaine McSporran were both sent off for violent conduct.

Queens Park Rangers had taken the lead on 26 minutes through Andy Thomson, when Kevin Gallen's shot had been brilliantly saved by Martin Taylor, leaving Thomson with an easy tap-in.

It took Wycombe only three minutes to get an equaliser though when Andy Rammell was pushed in the area while running for the ball and a penalty was awarded.

Steve Brown calmly slotted the ball past Fraser Digby in the Rangers' goal to make it 1-1.

The biggest surprise before the match, on the starting 11, was the clear absence of both Darren Currie and Stuart Roberts, the teams' two biggest playmakers. As the first half wore on, it was clear that Wycombe were lacking some creativity on the wings and not enough decent crosses were being put in for Rammell and McSporran.

Four minutes from the end of the first half, Gallen made a run into the area and brushed against Cousins, then flew on to the floor, to the anger of the Wycombe players.

The referee gave the penalty, but what happened afterwards was completely unnecessary and ruined Wycombe's chances of a win.

Everyone on the field, with the exception of the Rangers keeper, got involved in a huge brawl inside the Wycombe area. There were arms being thrown everywhere, most definitely by more than just the two Chairboys who would eventually be sent-off.

Somehow, though, the referee managed to find only McSporran and Senda worthy of a sending-off and left Wycombe with only nine men, to the clear jubilation of the Rangers fans.

Despite the blatant anger of the thousands of travelling Wycombe fans, there was relief when Taylor made a great save from Thomson's penalty and the two teams, one with only nine men, went in at 1-1 at the break.

The second half would contain five more goals and another penalty.

The QPR goal that everyone in the Wycombe stand had been expecting took only nine minutes to come, when Kevin Gallen slotted the ball past Martin Taylor from the right after a low pass from Gavin Peacock.

Wycombe had every player behind the ball but it was not enough to stop a third goal going in from Karl Connolly, when he hit a faboulous half volley past Taylor after a goalmouth scramble.

After that, Wycombe played with a 'nothing-to-lose' attitude and started being more adventurous.

A free-kick for the Blues, which had initially been seven yards outside the box, was moved forward by the referee for infringement to be three yards inside the area. Dannie Bulman hit it and the power of the shot gave the Rangers keeper no chance. Wycombe had pulled a goal back to make it 3-2.

It took only ten more minutes for Rangers to reinstate their two goal lead though when Gallen again broke through the Wycombe defence and played in Gavin Peacock for an easy tap-in past Taylor, who had been making some vital saves to keep Wycombe in with a shout.

Martyn Lee came on for Brown to add some more life to the Wycombe attack.

The Wanderers' crowd remained as noisy throughout the match and were never silenced. It was probably their endless singing that spurred Wycombe on to get their third goal.

Michael Simpson made a run and was brought down heavily by Murphy. The referee had no hesitation in giving another Wycombe penalty. As Brown had left the field, the duty of taking the penalty was taken up by Andy Rammell, who hit it straight down the middle to give Wycombe a chance of equalising with five minutes plus stoppage time remaining.

Rammell and Bulman were replaced by Currie and Roberts and they had an immediate influence on the game.

Roberts was everywhere and on 90 minutes, he played a superb ball to Simpson, who volleyed just wide to the despair of the anxious Wycombe support.

The final score was 4-3 in a very eventful game, that unfortunately for all involved, the referee had far too much influence on.
