WANDERERS boss Peter Taylor is looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window – with another striker top of his Christmas wish list.
The League Two November Manager of the Month fears he could be left short of goalscoring options if Queens Park Rangers and Reading reject his attempts to extend the loan deals of Angelo Balanta and Simon Church.
Balanta’s deal runs out in the New Year while Church’s time is up after next week’s game away at Shrewsbury, unless Blues can negotiate an extension.
Church is currently in his second loan spell with the club and Taylor said this week that he wants to keep him longer.
If he cannot extend the loans, and with Scott McGleish’s future also uncertain as he plays out a loan deal with Northampton Town, Wanderers could be left with just three strikers, Matt Harrold, Chris Zebroski and Magno Silva Vieira at the club for the second half of the season and Taylor says that is not enough.
Taylor said: “I still want to strengthen because you don’t know what’s going to happen and we want to push on.
“I have been out looking at players and I always do that.”
Meanwhile McGleish’s future is still in the balance.
Taylor said: “If Northampton want him at the end of the loan I would consider it, but I’m also happy if it doesn’t happen because he will be coming back to us match-fit.”
