WYCOMBE Town are three matches away from playing at Anfield in the final of the FA Sunday Cup after beating Hanham 2-1.

The Issac Lord High Wycombe Sunday Combination side came from behind to beat last year’s semi-finalists to book a place in the last 16 of the nationwide competition.

Missing seven first team regulars and with just five of the starting side that beat Kerria Sports in the previous round, it did not look good for Town when they trailed to a fifth minute goal in the match which was played at Mangotsfield United.

But Town were behind for just ten minutes when Nathan Richards popped up with the equaliser.

Town keeper Anthony Cooper came to the rescue of the Buckinghamshire outfit on more than one occasion and his efforts paid dividends with just two minutes remaining when substitute Scott Webb, making his first appearance of the season for the first team, volleyed in the winner from the edge of the box to win it for the visitors just when it looked like extra time was looming.

The victorious Town side now host Bedfordshire outfit, Club Lewsey on January 11 at Flackwell Heath FC for a place in the quarter final.

Meanwhile, in the Berks and Bucks Sunday Intermediate Cup, Barn Club went out 6-0 at the hands of AFC Donsville in the only game to survive the conditions involving Combination sides.

The weather also took its toll on the league programme with only a handful of games going ahead.

In Division Three Riffle Butts secured a 1-0 victory over Downley while in Divison Four, Four Seasons beat Hedsor Social Club 4-2.

They went ahead with a header from leading scorer Paul Sanders but Hedsor were soon back on level terms with a Shane Jackson penalty.

But having won a penalty at one end they promptly gave two away at the other allowing Sanders to wrap up his hat-trick.

The goal king then turned provider with a wonderful cross for brother Dale to head in to make it 4-1 before Chris Clews’ late consolation for Hedsor.

Bird and Hand United beat Chinnor Athletic 5-2 in the only other Division Four fixture to survive the weather.

The scoring was opened after 20 minutes when United’s Matt Gaylor was fouled in the box. Daniel Baskerville’s penalty for United opened the scoring before Matt Gaylor’s double increased their lead. Steyson Patterson added a fourth before Dave Gaylor bagged a fifth.

In Division Five, Holmer Green ended Sunters Wood’s unbeaten record with a 2-0 win thanks to Ryan Green’s brace.
