FLACKWELL Heath Veterans are set to take on Real Madrid's old boys in the Spanish capital this week with manager Byron Walton saying "if we win it will make Andrew Flintoff's Ashes celebrations look like a tea party"

The over 40s team, which includes two roofers and a builder will play the Spanish giants at Madrid's training ground just hours after watching David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, and Roberto Carlos strut their stuff for Real in the Madrid derby against Athletico.

Flackwell were invited to face the Spanish kings in a European title decider after they beat Arnold Town 3-2 to win the English Over 40s Umbro Cup earlier this month.

The Galacticos side of ex-Real Madrid players is managed by former Bernabeu and Spain legend Emilio Butragueno and looks set to include former Spanish international stars Michel, Julio Salinas, Andoni Zubizarretta, Fernando Gomez and Manuel Jiminez.

Walton, a 40-year-old roofer from Wycombe said: "It is unbelievable, you couldn't make it up. You wouldn't even think of writing to Jim'll Fix It for this because you would think it is just impossible.

"When this match was first talked about I thought yeah it will never happen but it is.

"We are going out there as heavy underdogs but we will give it a big go.

"It's a big honour and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves."

Walton, who managed Flackwell Heath's Ryman League side before moving to coach Hemel Hempstead, added: "I will have to throw my boots away after this because nothing will be able to top it."

The last time the Real Madrid old boys faced English opposition they walloped Liverpool's Veterans team 6-1.

The Flackwell team have wheeled in two big names to help prevent them from finishing on the sore end of a similar score.

Former Liverpool and Scotland midfielder John Wark and ex-England, Watford and AC Milan striker Luther Blissett will join the part which flies out on Wednesday.

Ex-Wycombe Wanderers player Dennis Greene is also in the team along with Wycombe Wanderers juniors coach Alan Paris.

Although the team play out of Flackwell's Wilks Park ground, only Payne and Walton have previously played for Flackwell Heath's Ryman League side with the rest of the team, which includes 52-year-old former Hayes centre half Reg Leather, consisting of ex-professionals and non-league players.

But the collection of old boys are taking it deadly seriously.

Walton has banned booze before the game saying that the time for partying comes afterwards.

He said: "We are all excited by it. We are representing England and that means a lot. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we want to give it our best shot."

Assistant manager Tony Perry, an ex-Marlow player, said: "Perhaps we are in over our heads but we will be giving it our best shot to bring the trophy back.

"We're not a bad side. We proved that by winning the Umbro Veterans Trophy in England but this is a real David versus Goliath clash.

"Win or lose it will be time to walk away afterwards because for me this is as good as it gets."
