WANDERERS fans were left stunned on Tuesday night after the Blues suffered their worst defeat since entering the Football League over a decade ago.
Blues fans were taken on an emotional roller-coaster ride, after seeing their team lead Premiership Aston Villa 3-1 at half-time in Tuesday's Carling Cup clash at the Causeway Stadium. But the euphoria was shortlived when Villa cruelly snatched the possibility of a giant-killing away to triumph 8-3. And with it, they handed Wanderers their worst result since entering the Football League in 1993.
A lower than expected crowd of just over 5,000 saw the match at The Causeway stadium.
But despite the unwanted record supporters remained upbeat after the match.
Lifelong fan Barrie Penfold said: "We didn't get the pants thrashed off us. We played fabulous in the first half probably the best I have seen Wycombe play and it was totally exhilarating.
"We have to remember they Villa have a good manager in David O'Leary and they are a Premiership side."
Fan James Young said: "The score line did not reflect Wycombe's performance on the night which was quality but we were found out by a better team."
