IAN McGeechan watched his replacements carry Wasps to victory and then said: "I want them to do that for the rest of the season."

Raphael Ibanez scored two tries within ten minutes of coming on, while Ayoola Erinle and Simon Shaw played key roles and director of rugby McGeechan said that's what they should be doing every week.

He enthused: "It's good when you have the quality to come off the bench. I wish it worked like that every time.

"Everyone that came on played their part and that will be important in a long season."

The match saw James Brooks come off the bench and nearly score with his first touch. The fly half raced 70 metres, only to be caught just short of the line.

But Shaun Edwards revealed that Brooks a specialist sevens player has been nursing an injury.

He said: "Brooks would have got there but he's carrying quite a serious groin injury at the moment."

Meanwhile, Leeds coach Phil Daly admitted his side just weren't good enough against Wasps and he reckons that the champions will be the team to beat again this year.

He said: "They're just excellent. They've been together for a long time.

"Wherever you hit them, they're really good. They have a great foundation and have replaced one top coach with another, while Shaun Edwards has been there a long time as well."

Meanwhile, Wasps' reserve team were looking for their first win of the season when they visited Gloucester last night.

The A team, who lost their opening fixture, will be playing their first match at their new ground Henley on September 26, when they entertain Bath.
