WYCOMBE Wanderers' Nathan Tyson scored the cheekiest goal ever seen at Adams Park as he increased his market value in front of an army of scouts.

The £750,000-rated striker underlined his supreme confidence with an impudent goal which stunned the trio of Premiership scouts from Everton, Wigan and Charlton who had come to watch him.

Wrexham keeper Michael Jones misjudged a high ball outside his area and, as it bounced over his head, Tyson raced onto it.

But instead of tapping the ball into an empty net, he lay down belly-first on the turf and then headed the rolling ball over the line to the amazement of everyone in the ground.

It is a move normally only reserved for the playground when a side is 15 goals up but not in a professional game and not with scouts from three Premiership clubs sitting in the stands along with spies from Championship pacesetters Sheffield United and Wolves as well as representatives from his long-time admirers Cardiff City.

Tyson said: "I don't know why I did it. I knew I had all the time in the world and I made my mind up that I was going to do it as I ran after the ball. The next thing I knew was lying on the floor heading the ball into the net.

"I know some people criticise my heading and say I don't score enough headers and I was trying to get my headed goals tally up.

"I've done it in training, just mucking about, but never in a game before. I don't know what came over me. It was so pub-football like.

"But I regretted it straight after. I feel sorry for the goalkeeper. He was a young lad and I never meant to rub his nose in it.

"It was just intended as a bit of fun and I would never do it again."

That goal, his 12th of the season, was the first in Wycombe's 4-1 win over the Welshmen and Tyson went on to score one more and make another as Blues maintained their unbeaten league record this season.

And he had no idea that his special goal was being watched by so many scouts.

He said: "I hope they didn't go away thinking I'm a cocky nugget."

But there was no danger of that.

As well as his audacious opener, Tyson set up Tommy Mooney for Wycombe's third and then scored Wanderers' fourth to cap another night of awesome football at Adams Park.

Wanderers manager John Gorman said: "His first goal showed just how confident he is at the moment.

"He knew he had time to do what he did."
