JOHN Gorman described Tommy Mooney as Wycombe's Teddy Sheringham after watching his superb forward displays.

The 34-year-old was praised by the Blues boss for his goalscoring and link-up play following the departure of Nathan Tyson last month. Like Teddy Sheringham, the former England international, Manchester United and Tottenham star who is still playing for West Ham at 39, Mooney has improved with age, is still scoring goals and also provides the link between midfield and attack.

Gorman enthused: "He's our Teddy Sheringham. He's taken on the mantle and his teamwork is fantastic.

"Tommy's just a great pro and we're just fortunate to have him. I think he's playing his best football for Wanderers at the moment. He suits the way we play because he's not just someone who plays in the penalty box. He does hard work outside the area as well."

And Gorman was happy at the way Charlie Griffin has come in and forged a partnership with Mooney.

He said: "We'll always miss people but we weren't going to miss Nathan as much as some other people thought we would. We know what Charlie's capable of and that's why we brought him in."

But Gorman is crossing his fingers that his deadly duo who both scored in Saturday's 3-0 defeat of Rochdale will be fit for today's visit to Bury.

Both didn't train at the start of the week but Griffin trained on Thursday and Mooney was set to train yesterday.

Gorman said: "They've both got slight injuries but, hopefully, they'll be OK."

Matt Bloomfield is likely to be fit but Joe Burnell is definitely out and Stefan Oakes is still a week or two away from recovery.

Gorman said: "At the moment, everyone wants to play. We're quite healthy, even though we've got injuries. Mark Philo is ready to play, we're looking to have Matt Bloomfield back and Kevin Betsy is a big threat to every team."

And Gorman is looking forward to pitting his wits against new Bury boss Chris Casper.

He said: "I used to coach Chris at Reading and he wants to play football. He's been brought up at Man United and Reading so he's got great credentials and he'll be wanting to put one over me. Bury don't need any motivation so we'll have to keep building on what we've done and go for a result."

Bury, who beat title hopefuls Leyton Orient on Saturday, are likely to be unchanged tomorrow. That means starts for on-loan duo Danny Reet and Jake Speight, while long-throw expert Dave Challinor will carry on as captain.

Casper will be able to coach from the touchlines despite being sent to the stand on Saturday at Orient.
