Women's hockey: AMERSHAM & Chalfont battled out a goalless draw with Bracknell as second and third met in the Trysports Three Counties top division last Saturday.

Helen Marsden in the A&C goal was called into service early on as Bracknell started strongly, but soon afterwards Caroline Coates worked space for a shot which had to be well-fielded at the other end.

Back came Bracknell but Marsden was again equal to everything they threw at her, making a string of fine saves before Helen Lloyd eased the pressure with a deflected shot over the bar.

More good goalkeeping from Marsden ensured it remained 0-0 after the break, but A&C were beginning to force the pace and as the game wore on looked the more likely winners.

Erin Ruxton had a clear opening from a penalty corner, but her fierce shot fizzed past the post before Catherine Watson nearly provided the killer striker in the final minute but her effort hit the post and flew to safety.

In the same division, Marlow's game with Oxford Rover 2s was postponed due to fog on Saturday, giving Marlow 2s and 3s the opportunity to steal the limelight with two victories.

Marlow 2s had been beaten by Sonning earlier in the season but were determined to make amends this time and the confidence gained from recent performances underpinned a battling performance.

Jenna Hammond's goal turned out to be the only breakthrough as Marlow recorded a win which takes them up to fifth place.

Marlow 3s were even more emphatic as they dispatched Bicester 5-0.

Nicky Dunnet opened the scoring from their first penalty corner of the match but had to wait until the second period before really clicking into gear. Claire Sheppard added goal number two before Lisa Tilley took over proceedings with a hat-trick to complete the rout which leaves Marlow on top of Division Five.

In Premier One, South Bucks went down 1-0 to City of Oxford to lie in eighth spot at the end of the year.

In Division Three, South Bucks 2s finished the year with a 2-1 win scoring all three goals.

They wrapped up the win, despite scoring an own-goal, thanks to a brace by Julie Woodland.

The only game for Wycombe Rye Ladies this week was the 2s' Premier Two match at Oxford Hawks.

Hawks had the best of the first half but Wycombe kept them at bay. Rye Ladies then looked stronger in the second period, only to concede a breakaway goal.

And it looked like it would stay that way until the final two minutes when Shona Black's hit was slotted home by skipper Karen McKinnon.
