WASPS served up a Christmas treat with a six-try demolition of Llanelli on Sunday.

After being prize turkeys last week, the real Wasps stood up to be counted and it was Llanelli who were on the end of a stuffing.

Tom Voyce led the way with three tries, while Ali McKenzie and Raphael Ibanez caused havoc across the park.

Mark van Gisbergen also made a welcome return to full back and to form, while Josh Lewsey showed that his best position is probably in the centre.

The only sour note on the horizon was the fact that Wasps have probably left their best performance of the season too late to make an impact in Europe.

Skipper Lawrence Dallaglio said: "This win will give us momentum for the rest of the season. We've got to learn the lessons from Europe and this was a lot better than last week.

"We've got good players and good coaches here. We've lost four games this season and they were all away from home in difficult conditions. We've got to learn the lessons from that and be more pragmatic."

Wasps began well and Alex King still kicking instead of van Gisbergen converted a penalty in the fifth minute before they scored a try two minutes later.

Ibanez as good this week as he was awful last week broke down the left after a well-worked line-out. The ball was then recycled and Voyce received King's pass to storm over from 25 metres to score.

King, who was faultless with his conversions, added the extra and Wasps were looking good.

Things got worse for Llanelli when skipper Simon Easterby left with blood pouring from his eye, while his teammates were having no luck at all with referee Alan Lewis, who was penalising Scarlets at the ruck more often than not.

He finally lost his patience on 34 minutes and sin-binned Jonathan Mills for interfering at the breakdown but, by then, Wasps had added to their score when Lewsey burst through a gap from 40 metres out and touched down to make it 17-0.

King added a penalty but Llanelli found themselves back in it when Simon Shaw's pass was intercepted by Dafydd James for an easy intercept try. Wasps had the last word of the half though when, after a series of drives, George Skivington went over to make it 27-7 at the break.

Scarlets' Heineken Cup hopes were hanging by a thread and they came out with all guns blazing after the break.

This time, it was Wasps who suffered the wrath of the referee and McKenzie was sin-binned for a high tackle. Wasps weathered the storm though and actually went further in front.

On 55 minutes, Lewsey somehow wriggled through three tackles down the left. He then fed Voyce and he would not be stopped as a burst of pace took the winger past two would-be tacklers to touch down.

That gave Wasps the bonus point but they weren't finished as Ibanez capped his fine display with a try thanks to Tim Payne's efforts to drive him over.

Wasps began ringing the chances, with Jonny Barrett and Matt Dawson coming on, but they still had enough in them to grab another try when their blitz defence caused Llanelli to fumble and Voyce picked up an early Christmas present to run in from half-way and claim a hat-trick.

Llanelli, who also had Garan Evans yellow-carded for a high tackle, had the last word when Barry Davies went over but Wasps were able to claim their best win so far and get their season back on track.

Dallaglio said: "The win ensures we can all sleep for the next six days and I can unwrap my Christmas presents with a smile on my face."
