WANDERERS crashed out of the LDV Vans Trophy on Tuesday when they lost 3-2 at Walsall.

In an exciting game, Charlie Griffin scored twice but it wasn't enough as Blues were undone by a late goal from Jorge Leitao three minutes from time.

Blues boss John Gorman was forced to ring the changes for the southern area quarter-final, with Frank Talia, Rob Lee and Sergio Torres all absent from the starting team that lost at Bury on Saturday. But it looked like Wycombe hadn't been affected by the changes when they scored on six minutes, Griffin sweeping in Kevin Betsy's cross.

But Walsall hit back and were 2-1 up by half time. First, James Constable scored on 17 minutes before Julian Bennett headed home on 22 minutes.

Tommy Mooney saw a goal chalked off for a foul but Wanderers could have gone further behind but for some excellent saves by Steve Williams, deputising in goal for the injured Talia.

And those saves looked to have proved crucial when Mooney crossed for Griffin to head in the equaliser with just seven minutes left.

Wanderers looked to be heading for extra time but Walsall had other ideas and when Williams skied a clearance after the ball bobbled in front of him, Alex Nicholls laid it back for Leitao to send Wanderers out of the competition.
