HIGH Wycombe's Jade Forbes-Wattley helped England retain their European Championship crown in Sheffield this month.

The 15-year-old Wycombe High Student was the youngest member of the squad which won the title after winning every game they played at the indoor Championships.

The defender said: "The whole experience has been just amazing. When I was chosen for the squad I was ecstatic but it just got better and better and better."

She made the starting seven for the first match a 29-22 victory against Northern Ireland and never looked back as she was involved in all five of England matches en-route to European glory.

After seeing off the Irish, Gibraltar and Malta were then put to the sword by scores of 58-10 and 59-9 respectively, before England extinguished the double threat of Scotland and Wales by 37-18 and 42-15 to take the title in style.

Forbes-Wattley said: "It took a while to sink in afterwards but I'm very proud of what I have done and what we have achieved as a team.

"It was such a good week and we all worked so hard."

Her success at her first major international tournament has made her even more determined to succeed as she strives towards her goal of representing the England senior side.

She said: "I'm going to train hard and try and get selected again because I want to do it all again next year. I hope to keep going and represent England at senior level."

That would mean following in the footsteps of mum Merle, who is a former karate world champion.

Jade said: "I used to watch mum do karate, so as soon as I could walk I started to run and kick. I have always been sporty."

As well as playing and representing her club side Clan, Jade also helps with the coaching of Year Seven and eight pupils at Wycombe High School.

Her elevation to the England scene even earned her and her teammates a telly spot alongside pop sensation Chico for Childrens BBC.

And despite being the youngest in the team she was involved every step of the way, even helping to choose the music that the team got psyched up to in the dressing room with her own choise being Do Your Thing by Basement Jaxx.

But it has been back down to earth with a bump for her this week.

She said: "I have gone from playing netball for my country straight back to Spanish lessons and citizenship classes at school."
