WYCOMBE Wanderers have told their supporters it is up to them to decide the name of the club's ground.

The board want to sell off the stadium name to another sponsor, after Causeway Technologies two-year sponsorship deal came to an end but they say they will only do it if they get the backing of the fans.

Blues' managing director Steve Hayes told the Free Press this week that he would turn down whatever sum of money the club are offered if the fans are vehemently against it.

When Blues sold off the name Adams Park, renaming it Causeway Stadium, after their sponsors, it caused a supporters revolt.

Some fans accused the club's money men of selling off the club's heritage.

Now Blues are determined to get it right.

They are planning to undertake a major fans survey, consulting between 1,000 and 1,500 fans at least to gauge the real opinion.

Hayes said: "If the supporters are vehemently against the name change then I have got no reason to push for it.

"I don't want to go against what supporters want. Ultimately we are running the club for those supporters."

The Causeway deal brought in around £50,000 a year and Wanderers would be looking to rake in more than that if the supporters give them the green light to hunt a new stadium sponsor.

And Hayes warned that income would have to come in from somewhere else or be cut from within the club's budget if enough of the fans vote against.

Meanwhile Wanderers have told fans not to bother writing in with their views just yet.

They will compile a special fans survey with the help of their supporters groups to gauge reaction in the near future.

The survey, which will be properly verified, will also include a question asking supporters what the minimum amount is that they would be happy to sell the ground's name for.
