DANNY Cipriani has promised to return to Wasps in two years’ time – and says he’ll be better than ever.

He joins Super 15 outfit Melbourne Rebels at the end of this season but after his virtuoso performance saw off Gloucester in the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final on Sunday, the 22-year-old insisted that Wycombe hasn’t seen the last of him just yet.

Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards said: “At the end of the match I said to him, ‘That was a fantastic way to say thank-you to the Wasps fans who have supported you’.

“His words were, ‘I’m only going for two years, I’ll be back’.”

Director of rugby Tony Hanks said: “Danny has been here a long time.

“This Melbourne experience was always going to be a positive experience with a view to bringing him back and the way they cross over two seasons in Super 15 doesn’t mean two seasons here.”

Cipriani scored 17 points and inspired a five-try 42-26 victory over Gloucester to book at least one more Adams Park run-out this season – against Cardiff in the semi-finals in three weeks.

Edwards said: “His performance was absolutely out of the top drawer and shows what an incredibly talented player he is. I don’t give praise out willy nilly but I thought he was exceptional.”

Cipriani said: “I’m very happy with the decision I made. I’m going to go away and learn as much as I can and hopefully return the best player I can be.

“Right now I’m just enjoying playing my last games for Wasps and giving everything and making sure the fans get the best of me.

“Hopefully I can keep going until the end of the season and get Wasps some silverware.

“We want two trophies. I know it’s a big ask but we’re going to give it our all and if we keep going forward the way we are it’s definitely within our grasp.”
