AMERSHAM & Chiltern are planning the spectacular tomorrow.

They go to Witney in the final match of the season needing to win by 39 clear points to snatch the Southern Counties North title out of their hosts’ hands – and director of rugby Matt Allen is not ruling it out.

He said: “If we get a few early scores you never know.

“There is an opportunity there if we start hot and we’re not ruling it out by any means.”

It would be some steal. Witney have won 20 of their 21 games this year, they have scored more points than Amersham and conceded less, and when the two sides met at the start of the season Witney won that too.

Allen said: “What I remember from the first game is that our physicality really told in the last 20 minutes and we put them under a lot of pressure.

“If we can get one or two scores up at half time I think there is every chance of putting 30 points on them in the second half.

“The pressure is all on them. Mathematically we need to win by 39 points, but we’re not focusing on that. We just want to do the simple things well and see where that takes us.

“We’re really excited about this weekend.”

However, they will go to Witney without their star back.

Centre Neil Foster scored two tries and was named Man of the Match in Saturday’s 38-14 win over Windsor, but his afternoon ended in nightmare when he broke his leg in two places in the final play of the game.

Allen said: “You can’t replace a player like him and he’ll be a big miss for us.

“There is only one of him at the club, but our Saxons have won seven of their last nine games and are playing fantastic rugby. We do have quality in depth here.”

Amersham will host Frome in the promotion play-off if they can’t pull off mission impossible.

l Apart from avenging their home defeat to Witney, Amersham have another score to settle tomorrow.

Two seasons ago they went to Witney on the final day of the season needing to win to avoid relegation – they lost and were consigned to the BB&O League.
